Mitsubishi Galant Pros

The Galant is sized closely to its primary competitors such as the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Nissan Altima, and has a similar array of features, but some shoppers may be attracted to its styling, which stands apart from the pack inside and out. It also has rear seat room that's better than average in its class and a decent ride. The base model in particular has a rather long list of standard features for a base model, while the high-performance Ralliart model may appeal to handling enthusiasts with its sport-tuned suspension.

Mitsubishi Galant Model Highlights

The new Galant lineup consists of four different models: the ES, Sport (also called Sport Edition), Sport V6, and sporty, top-of-the-line Ralliart. ES and Sport models are powered by a 160-horsepower, 2.4L four-cylinder engine with a four-speed automatic transmission, while Sport V6 models get a 230-horsepower, 3.8L V6 and five-speed automatic. The Ralliart comes with a more powerful, 258-horsepower version of the V6 engine with MIVEC continuously variable valve timing, along with a five-speed Sportronic automatic. All models now come standard with front seat-mounted side air bags, side curtain bags that cover front and rear outboard occupants, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution. V6 models also have traction control, but electronic stability control is not available. Standard equipment on the ES is quite generous compared to other mid-size sedans, and includes air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, a height-adjustable driver's seat, power windows, locks, and mirrors, a power trunk release, a trunk pass-through, and a 140-watt MP3-compatible CD sound system with six speakers. The Sport adds a sportier appearance thanks to 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, sport seating surfaces, and dark-chrome headlamps reflectors, along with luxury equipment such as heated front seats and mirrors, a sunroof, a power driver's seat, steering-wheel audio controls, an alarm system, and "black wood print" interior trim. Sport V6 models upgrade to a 360-watt Rockford Acoustic Design audio system with six-disc changer and six months of included Sirius satellite radio, along with white gauges. The Ralliart model, which can accelerate to 60 mph in about six seconds according to Mitsubishi, also comes with some exclusive performance equipment, including a Ralliart-tuned sport suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, and other extras including aluminum-trimmed pedals, a sport steering wheel, and perforated leather upholstery. Major options include a so-called Sun, Sound and Leather Package, which brings a lot of the Sport's equipment to the ES model but also adds leather upholstery, the upgraded sound system, heated seats, and more. On the Ralliart, a navigation system option brings Diamond Lane Guidance, which allows the driver to navigate a route based on carpool privileges, plus a multi-communication system for hands-free calling.

Mitsubishi Galant Model News

Mitsubishi's mid-size Galant sedan has been given a thorough facelift-including a completely new front and rear appearance-and a revamped lineup of features for 2009, although it's basically the same size and proportions as the model it replaces.
